So here, one of the third party app was ‘thisisyourdigitallife’, a personality test, developed by Aleksandr Kogan. All the above mentioned data was grabbed or used by this application. Nearly 270,000 people downloaded this app, logged in with their Facebook credentials and it gathered their data and data about their friends, and then Kogan passed/sold the data to Cambridge Analytica, data firm.
Now, as they know what the people likes/dislikes and what are their preferences, they will run wrong campaigns in order to target and change the people’s mindset which shows results in the votes.
According to the reports, this was the scandal happened in 2016 USA elections, in which trump was won.
How to prevent the third party apps from accessing your data?
Well, that is easy!!!!
On the Facebook home page, go to Facebook settings, then visit “apps,” and now check the number of apps that are linked to your Facebook account. You can remove the apps from the list, if you wish they must be blocked.
